Eff ect of the method of the infi ltration on the microstructure and mechanical properties of ceramic-metal composites, was studied. Ceramic preforms were formed by method of copying the cellular structure of the polymer matrix. The results of the X-ray tomography proved very good infi ltration of the pores by the metal for each method.

متن کاملHigh-Performance Metal/Carbide Composites with Far-From-Equilibrium Compositions and Controlled Microstructures
The prospect of extending existing metal-ceramic composites to those with the compositions that are far from thermodynamic equilibrium is examined. A current and pressure-assisted, rapid infiltration is proposed to fabricate composites, consisting of reactive metallic and ceramic phases with controlled microstructure and tunable properties. An aluminum (Al) alloy/Ti2AlC composite is selected as...
متن کاملResidual Stresses in Novel Metal/ceramic Composites Exhibiting a Lamellar Microstructure
The aim of this study is to analyze the mechanics of a new class of metal/ceramic composite on a mesoscopic length scale. These composites are produced by melt infiltration of porous ceramic preforms produced by freeze-casting and subsequent sintering. This production route has a high application potential since it offers a cost-effective way to obtain composites with ceramic content in the ran...
متن کاملX-ray computed micro tomography as complementary method for the characterization of activated porous ceramic preforms
X-ray computed micro tomography (CT) is an alternative technique to the classical methods such as mercury intrusion (MIP) and gas pycnometry (HP) to obtain the porosity, pore-size distribution, and density of porous materials. Besides the advantage of being a nondestructive method, it gives not only bulk properties, but also spatially resolved information. In the present work, uniaxially presse...
متن کاملNano Dispersed Metal-Ceramic Composite Materials of the Ni-SiO2 system
In the organic field effect transistors (OFETs) generation, the silicon gate oxide is 1-2 nm thick. A shrinking of this thickness down to less than 1 nm for the next generation will led to a couple of orders of magnitude increase in tunnelling as well as leakage currents. NiO-SiO2 can be used in a variety of devices, such as in circuit boards and detectors, including sensors, due to its porous ...
